Piano books for learning or playing pleasure
When I first started on my piano lesson I depended heavily on my piano teacher to recommend good piano books to me. Not having any understanding of what my personal style of playing was, I bought whatever was recommended. Consequently there were books in my collection which collected dust as I rarely used them and there were those which I constantly use because I enjoyed them so much. I am sure many of you can relate to my experience.
Today, as a piano teacher it is also my job to identify the best piano learning books for my students. As a result, I shop quite frequently at my favorite music bookshops in Singapore to review the new introductions made available by the publishers.
Types of piano books
Many types of piano books are available today - audio books, videos, CD-ROMS, DVD and online sheet music. Years ago sheet music were expensive, today they are much more affordable and can even be purchased online.
Piano books for different levels
Piano books should also be purchased only for the level that you are learning or graded. Children piano books and adult piano books are quite different. Children usually start with the traditional process of beginner learning while adult piano books are simplified to make piano playing easier for adult fingers. Some pieces are actually simplified versions of popular songs which you can play and hum along to.
